The Flea

Mark but this flea， and mark inthis，
How little that which thou deniest me is;
Me it suckedfirst， and now sucks thee，
And in this flea our two bloods mingledbe;
Thou know“st that this cannot be said
A sin， or shame， orloss of maidenhead，
Yet this enjoys before it woo，
And pamperedswells with one blood made of two，
And this， alas， is more than we woulddo.
Oh stay， three lives in one flea spare，
Where we almost，nay more than married are.
This flea is you and I， and this
Ourmarriage bed and marriage temple is;
Though parents grudge， and you，we are met，
And cloisered in these living walls of jet.

Cruel andsudden， hast thou since

Wherein could this flea guilty be，

8.hast：在古英語里，相當(dāng)于 have 的第二人稱單數(shù)的現(xiàn)在式，主詞為 thou。
9.purpled thy nail：thy用在古英語里，相當(dāng)于your，你的。掐死了跳蚤，所以鮮血染紅了指甲，變成了“紫色”。由此可見，詩人的語言非常滑稽有趣。
